Space Shuttle Mission STS-1 (Columbia)

The first shuttle mission was launched on April 12th 1981. It had a minimal crew consisting of Commander John W. Young and Pilot Robert L. Crippen. This was a test mission to verify the performance of the shuttle vehicle.
